The story of Fizza Eydarova, editor of Azadliq.info, is an example of how regime critical journalists and human rights activists in Azerbaijan are being targeted with sophisticated phishing attacks at an increasing rate. The attacks were launched from AzerTelecom, one of the country’s largest Internet provider, with total impunity.
According to Qurium’s investigation, the number of attack vectors used and the fact that the atacks were carried out during several months’ time shows a certain level of dedication and determination. The attacks were carried from an IP address which has been used to launch attacks against other independent media in Azerbaijan in the past.
